4XSlopestyle Frameset

“The Dreamliner (4X/Slopestyle frame) is my favorite bike in the Diamondback line up, Its quick and snappy in the turns and fly’s predictably and smooth. The geometry works well for my style of riding, whether that be two, one, or zero wheels on the ground!”
Kelly McGarry
DF5 Pro Factory Team Rider

It’s a weapon… there’s no two ways around it. If your battle is a slopestyle comp, a 4X or dual slalom course or just general all around slaying, then you need a badass whip for the game partner. And this here just might be that rig.

The 4X/Slopestyle frame is a 4" travel 6061-T6 Weapons Grade Aluminum piece of art. With a hydroformed Top Tube, a butted and formed down tube & seatstay; An under arch seatstay bridge,a tapered head tube, ISCG05 tabs, a 142×12mm e-thru axle drop out and Diamondbacks legendary Knuckle Box design.

Diamondback’s Design Philosophy is a no-nonsense approach to building quality bicycles. We want our bike designs to be straightforward: their hardware accessible and their suspension simple.

The Knuckle Box, or bell crank, is the core of our single-pivot four-bar suspension platform. Optimally placed pivots equate to a low leverage ratio, and ultimately to superior pedaling efficiency and small-bump compliance. This also allows the shock to work more efficiently and reduces pedal induced motion. It also reduces overall load on the system which will lead to improved shock and bearing life.

Placing the Knuckle Box low within the frame, situates the greatest weight of the bike closer to the bottom bracket, which lowers the bike’s center of gravity and allows it to better track and corner.

Wheel-rate is also one of the most significant aspects of a suspension system. Wheel-rate is the effective spring-rate when measured at the wheel. A benefit of our four-bar linkage is increased control over the wheel-rate. Obtaining the spring-rate curves in shocks from Fox is necessary to allowing us to determine the wheel-rate. Working closely with Fox, we’re able to optimize the wheel-rate to be linear-to-slightly progressive. This results in superb small-bump compliance, more perceived travel and excellent bottom-out protection. For this application we’ve chosen to run a 4” travel (165×38mm ) Fox Float RP23 with Kashima Coat, rebound adjust and new 3 position “adaptive logic” Propedal Platform with On/Off lever. This keeps the rear riding plush without too much sacrifice on the pedal uphill. The RP23’s patented Boost Valve technology provides a feeling of endless travel and plushness like that of a downhill rig, but with amazing pedaling efficiency.

The 4X/Slopestyle frame gets its chops from the Mission platform. We used what we learned with the Mission to make a few tweak and reinforcements, reduce the travel and ultimately build you a park bike that could slay the big hits with the agility of a dirt jumper. The bike is designed around a 100 or 120mm fork up front which allows the front end to sit at around 68 to 69 degrees. We’ve also added a reinforced downtube to ensure a stable platform regardless of how big you go. By also increasing the size of the hardware, we put less stress on the bearing sustaining their life.

The 2012 4X/Slopestyle frame comes with:

  • Fox Float RP23 with Kashima Coat
  • FSA No55 Taper 1.5 / 1 1/8" Headset with Alloy cups and sealed cartridge bearings (incl. extra reducer crown race)
  • DB BMX Pivotal Saddle
  • Alienation Billy Club Pivotal 30.9 post
  • 32h 142×12 sealed cartridge bearing hub with 12mm Shimano E-Thru QR Axle

Knuckle Box Technology

Tapered Head tube – Today’s longer travel forks generate more stress on the head tube. Add in today’s more aggressive rider and the need for additional strength in that region becomes imperative. Thus the 2012 Scapegoat frame is equipped with a tapered head tube for enhanced steering and extra strength.

142×12 mm Thru Axle – Employing Shimano’s new 142×12 mm E-Thru design makes for a stiffer and stronger rear-end on the bike.

Single-Sided Hardware – Single-sided hardware used for the three main pivot points allows for easy access to your high-quality Enduro Max bearings simply with standard tools. No more removing the crankset to tighten or service your pivots.

LOW AND TIGHT – The Knuckle Box platform was designed specifically to be low and tight:

  • Low center of gravity: All suspension parts are positioned farther down on the frame for a stable and balanced ride.
  • Low leverage suspension design: Lower air pressure results in longer shock life, less frame loading and better pedaling.
  • Tight, compact linkage system of the Knuckle Box bell crank isolates and cradles the rear shock.
  • Tight and large anodized aluminum hardware, matched with Force-Rated Enduro Max Bearings: Withstands higher loads and better handles oscillating motion.

The 2012 4X/Slopestyle frame comes with a 22 inch toptube (think Dirt Jump bike). This is a bike with a purpose. Choose your weapon wisely.
